Pistachio Estate

This old country house is located in the town of Aegina, only a short walking distance from the main port, the beach and the center of the town. Surrounded by a plot of land measuring more than 25.000m2 filled with mature pistachio trees, the house is an oasis of peace and tranquility within Aegina’s busy center. It was built around 1915 by George Fortounas, a prominent figure at the time. Besides being responsible for the construction of the island’s aqueduct, he also spread the cultivation of pistachio trees in Aegina by creating in 1925  the first commercial pistachio nursery on the island which was a great contribution to the island’s economic development.

The architecture of the house exudes the traditional style of its time. Τhick stoned walls, high ceilings, wood flooring and framed windows are only a few of the special features and characteristics which give this home a warm and cozy feeling. Moreover, the layout of the house facilitates an easy indoor-outdoor lifestyle. A spacious living/dining room with a fireplace constitutes the main central area around which the rest of the house is built. Three comfortable bedrooms with their own bathroom, one bathroom is en suite, occupy the three corners of the house, thus enjoying privacy and independence, an ideal choice for families or couples since the twin beds  are joined together in a king size double bed. The right section of the house comprises of a bedroom, a nursery and a big bathroom. It is isolated from the rest of the house with a door. The nursery is equipped with a cot or a single bed  according to the needs of the guests. Other features include an open air veranda and a covered terrace which is used as an outdoor dining room. Furthermore, the house benefits from a large courtyard planted with Mediterranean flora and surrounded by large pine trees that serve as natural pergolas during the summer months. The lovely view to the acres of pistachio trees is soothing to the eyes creating an ideal atmosphere for al fresco dining, lounging and entertainment.
